Abstract
In 2011,we produced the first collection of quotable quotes by president Goodluck Jonathan. The work was part of a larger project that chronicles the Jonathan Presidency. The aim is to document memorable statements of president Jonathan from as far as the research could reach, dating back to his days as deputy governor in Bayelsa state.
This is the updated edition, expanded into twelve Chapters and appropriately re-categorized. We have introduced new Chapters on "nation building", "tributes" and " foreign affair" and renamed some other Chapters. The quotes have now covered a period of between 2005 and 2013.
we believe that this work will be useful to researchers and to Nigerians interested in understanding what informs the policy thrust of the administration. Notable is the president's persistent promise in the media for electoral justices in 2011elections may have made more meaning to most Nigerians.
As far back as 2005 when he was a deputy governor, president Jonathan had remarked in a position paper that:"A society where people who want to win elections into very sensitive and high officer are not interested in popularizing themselves with the electorates, rather, they are interested on how to buy or shoot themselves into office will surely degenerate"
Discerning Politicians (including those in his party, the PDP) with access to a book of this nature, with a collection of statements like the above may have taken him more seriously and got on board the "one man one vote;one woman one vote;one youth one vote" ideology championed by the president in the weeks and months leading to the 2011 elections.
The president commitment to nation-building democratisation and good governance is evident in his speeches on various occasion inaugurations, celebrations, opening remarks , keynote addresses and general statement. This compilation no doubt opens a window into the innermost thoughts of the president.
