Abstract
As far as Intelligence services are concerned, Canada has long been regarded as keeping a low profile. Yet, in reality, Canada devotes significant resources to Intelligence and security, and increasingly treats Intelligence issues with serious consideration in a new climate of openness and candour. The essays in this volume originated in an international conference organized by the Canadian Association for Security and Intelligence Studies (CASIS) and held at Ottawa in September 1989. The purpose of the conference was to explore the probable environment in which security and Intelligence Agencies will function in the next decade. The current changes in Eastern Europe added an extra dimension to the discussion.
While the central focus of the volume is on the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, its history, function and culture, there are comparative studies of the British, Soviet, American and Australian system as well.
