Abstract
In March 1999, a unique three days meeting took place in university college Cork, Ireland, at which of terrorism experts from academic and law enforcement presented and discussed their views on future developments in terrorism.
As well as being a forum for experts from different disciplines and professions to meet and explore areas of mutual concern, the uniqueness of the meeting also lay in the extensive range of strategic and conceptual issues discussed. These included the effects of the changing geo-political context on terrorism; strategic and tactical responses to innovations in terrorism and the challenges posed to law enforcement; the changing nature in terrorism; the reality of the threat of use of weapons of mass destruction by terrorist organizations, and single- issue terrorism.
This book brings together papers presented at the meeting, and offers a timely series of challenging, and at times controversial, perspectives on the unfolding nature of terrorism.
