Abstract
The report on the Eighth Nigerian Economic Summit with the theme: “Nigeria’s Economic Priorities; How Do We Deliver”, is an incisive and thorough articulation of an implementation action plan through which democracy dividends can be delivered.
The eighth summit, unlike previous summits which focus on the “Big picture and long-term direction issues”, focuses on crafting an action agenda to deliver on economic priorities defined in terms of identified growth drivers namely, job creation, security, infrastructure, sector reforms and investment climate; as well as the require critical and specific actions (to be under taken by whom, when and how) over the short-to-medium term period, that will generate quantum multiplier effect on the economy and thus stimulate sustainable economic growth and development-an imperative for Nigeria’s nascent democracy to thrive.
It also identified and emphasizes the fundamental role of entrepreneurship and the need to follow through on – going reforms if the Nigeria economy is to present investors with a “preferred investment destination status”, in a highly globalized knowledge economy driven by information technology.
