Societal verses is a fictional version of the 1984 dare-devil robbery saga of Anini and his deadly gang, which threw entire Nigerian into a state of fear and insecurity. The gang was dreaded so much that it was generally believed that the mere mention of Anini could make him appear from nowhere and wreak havoc. By the time the gang was arrested and executed many lives and properties were lost and the image of Nigerian security operation seriously dented. The image of The Nigerian Police, in particular, was tamished not only because of its inability to bring the situation under control immediately, but because of the involvement of a top police officer in the heinous crime.
The author of societal verses was a member of the tribunal that tried the notorious criminal. The novel is therefore an authoritative account by an insider ; an account that seeks to put the record straight and suggests the most effective ways to deal with societal vices.
