Abstract
This book “Business- Government Relations in Nigeria (1854-2003), Policies, Laws and Institutional Frameworks” is a modest attempt at meeting the challenge posed by the absence of a single authored reference material on the subject from the period prior to the establishment of colonial rule through the colonial era till date in Nigeria. Subjects such as the impact of Colonial Administration on Business Relations in Nigeria, Indegenisation, Structural Adjustment Programme, to mention a few have been amply discussed as much as current themes, such as privatization and commercialization of enterprises, Legal and institutional frame works on Foreign Direct Investment in Nigeria, the Banking Industry, the Stock Exchange, the Securities and Exchange Commission, etc. it is hope that the articulated views shall be worthy of policies considerations in ensuring well reasoned and properly implemented economic policies, laws and institutional frameworks in order to ensure a conducive business climate and eradicate the abysmal level of poverty in our dear country. It is also hope that the juxtaposition of the past with the present embarked upon in this book will assist in identifying how best governmental intervention in business will be in the very interest of Nigeria and serves as a lesson to other African countries.
