Abstract
New technology since World War II has revolutionized the way wars are fought. War in the fourth dimension reveals the electronic warfare tactics and equipment employed by the US in Vietnam, during the Gulf war, in the war in Kosovo and elsewhere. In Vietnam, the first use of Soviet surface to-air missiles against US planes inflicted a major reverse on the US air campaign, which was only checked by the introduction of electronic countermeasures systems and revised tactics. In subsequent conflicts, the low los rate suffered by US planes attacking targets in missile defended areas were the results of the earlier hard-learnt lessons.
