Bakassi Politics - Nigeria 2. Nigeria, Cemeroun Dispute
Abstract
The dispute between Nigeria and Cameroun over the ownership of the Bakassi peninsula was highly contentious one. As a relic of the partitioning of Africa by European colonial power in the 19th century, the Bakassi dispute presented the two Africa nations with serious cross-border security problem. Though the issue was resolved in favour of Cameroun with the 2012 World Court judgement many scholars still post that the peninsula rightly belongs to Nigeria.
This book is a treatise on the intricacies of the Bakassi issue. It captures the politics of the World Court judgement and the eventual ceding of the peninsula to Cameroun. And it highlights the political, economic and military implications of the development.
