Abstract
'Traditional' approach to conflict transformation or resolution is not the same as 'local' approaches. 'local' and 'traditional' are, therefore, not synonyms. while traditional approaches which to some extend can also pass as indigenous, vice versa is essentially traditional. Local approach is thus an all encompassing term which includes traditional, indigenous and adapted Western mechanisms. most of the approaches in this volume are essentially local not because they are traditional or indigenous. but largely because they have been domesticated for relevance in a locality. Many of the contemporary approaches as the papers revealed are more of transferred mechanisms (usually from the West or based on Western models) that were adapted to suit local peculiarities.
Generally the essays contained in this volume have further investigated some of the issues relating to local mechanisms for conflict transformation and their limitations on the one hand and on the other, have integrated their potency given the reality of impact of modernization and globalization.
