Abstract
This book could not have come at a better time considering the global recognition of the vital roles women play in the society today and when the future roles of women are looked upon more optimistically by most dynamic and progressive societies.
It should enable us challenge and raise issues about some stereo-typed views, beliefs and customs which have been dehumanizing, degrading, demeaning and debasing women thereby subjecting them to all forms of abuses, violence and exploitation and subsequently blurring the difference between the individual woman
(self) and the roles. This often deprives her from realizing her core value that can help her in having self-actualization. This book should be able to redefine and consolidate the nature of the woman’s place in the society today.
The role of women in the family and the society is complementary to that of men and vice versa. If the concept of equality is misunderstood, there will be tendency to see the two sexes as one. This is the mistake that several women ideological movements in the West are making.
While accepting the fact that today, a lot of violence and exploitation are perpetuated against women. It should not be forgotten that women are most often party to the violence and exploitation committed against them.
After reading this book, we should be able to appreciate a woman as a symbol of purity, holiness, innocence and embodiment of tendency and integrity as opposed to what some of our oppressive cultural practices, distinct religion has made her.
