Abstract
it is the time to say the whole World has been waiting for Nigeria, the World most populous and well-endowed African nation, to truly democratise.
After a lot of false starts, the Fourth Republic offers Nigerians another opportunity, albeit a unique one, towards the march to genuine democracy. At the forefront of the transition, midwived by the Head of State and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces General Abdusalam Abubakar, was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which were a Pan-Nigeria mandate at every election, including the presidential election.
At the centre of the this political process was the PDP's Presidential candidate and former Head of State, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, a man whose candidacy drew extreme passions - outright disgust or great adulation - depending on which divide of the opinion cleavage that Nigerians belonged.
However, the landslide victory of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo at the presidential election and the events that followed confirmed him as a man of destiny an astute statesman whose respect is without national boundaries.
Selected images of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo's journey to the Fourth Republic from the beginning to the end of his campaign photographer, sunday Tumo-Ojelabi make up the unique book. These simple but penetrating photographs speak volumes about the events that led to the victory of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and the artistic vision of the photographer - all captured in colour.
