Abstract
Nigeria’s National Security Issues and Challenges is a valuable addition to the growing literature on global security and the perception of nations about security lapses and requirement and steps being taken to address them. Thus, diverse definitions of security and the way it is conceived are presented in the following pages. But then, each nation Nigeria amongst them, must devise means of addressing or dispelling concerns over the issues of, the example, governance, requisite balance in the composition and constitutional of military and para-military agencies, cross-border banditry and transnational crime networks and its particular place or position in the comity of nations amongst others.
Such is the enormity of security issues that no single armed or unarmed paramilitary or otherwise authority can solely and adequately confront them. A concerted approach by all security agencies in training and retraining, information gathering and exchange intelligence sharing and the realisation that all must work not at cross purposes, but with a common objective in sight to symbiotically achieve determined goals, ought to be in the forefront of policy making henceforth.
