Abstract
The aim of study is to find out how Nigerians perceive the core values of the Nation. To achieve this aim, a 41-item questionnaire, which covered bio-data, political, economic and social core values, was administered to 155,924 respondents in the 774 Local Government Areas of the country.
The data were analysed with averages, means, standard deviations, t-test, ANOVA and Regression statistical methods. The overall mean score of the perception of Nigeria core values was 2.84 on a 3-point scale. The perception across the six geo=political zone range from 2.80 to 2.95 Males scored 2.84 against females’2.80. The ranges 281 – 285, 2.80 – 2.88, and 2.76 – 2.87, were obtained for age, religion and educational level, respectively: Similar patterns of result were obtained in the States. The T-test and F-ratios were significant at p- 05. The results indicate a positive perception of political, economic and social core value of Nigeria.
Slight variations among some categories of respondents were noted and explanations given for them. It was recommended that the National Orientation Agency should use the result to design programmes for achieving its mandate.
